COVID-19 Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Thank you all for being flexible during during our Learn at Home program. We understand the challenges ahead, but we are strong, resilient and Spirit-led. We will overcome!
We know you may have questions. So we’ve put together a list of frequently asked questions (FAQs) for your convenience.
What is my child required to do while away from the school building?
School is still in session and we still have expectations for all our students. Our teachers may not be able to implement traditional methods of discipline at this time (i.e., demerits, detentions, etc.), therefore we are depending on parents to find ways of motivating your children to meet our pacing and academic standards. If you have questions about the expectations for your child’s class, please reach out to their teachers individually.
Are students expected to keep a regular school schedule?
We encourage structure and routine in the home. At this time, students are not penalized for not working at a certain time. However, we ask that you consider the benefits of routine (waking at a certain time, breakfast, getting dressed, having a special spot for schoolwork, and planning your day in a way the works for your family).
Are teachers available for virtual assistance?
Yes. Teachers are available between the hours of 9am and 1pm. This is where a schedule comes in handy for your child’s benefit.
Do you have a suggestion for my child’s schedule?
Yes! Our teachers have posted to your child’s Facebook group and/or emailed with their preferred schedule. We advise parents to be mindful of this schedule when reaching out for help in a particular subject.
Are students expected to turn in work while out of school?
Yes. Students using our Ignitia curriculum will see all their deadlines on the Ignitia website when they log in. All other students are given special worksheets. Please contact your child’s teacher for questions.
May we use our cellphones for instruction and classroom engagement?
Yes. At this time, students may use cellphones for instruction during e-learning sessions. We ask you to respect the teacher’s suggested schedule and office hours.
Do we still pay tuition?
Yes. Our school is still in operation. Students will be expected to participate in school as if they were coming to the building everyday. Thank you for continuing to support your Church and your Christian School during this time.
When can students return to school?
At this time, the impact of the COVID-19 virus seems to evolve from day to day. We are currently taking it week-by-week and will update parents when it is safe for students to return to school.
What if we feel overwhelmed?
These are challenging times. While we expect students to be engaged, and parents to monitor their progress, it is fully understandable to feel anxious or overwhelmed. We encourage students to reach out to teachers with any concerns. Our Team is totally available to our Eastgate Academy students. If your teacher is assisting another student, we have tudors on standby. We will get you the help you need. When you begin to feel overwhelmed, we encourage you to be patient and gracious with yourself and your children. Also, building in breaks throughout the school day helps to keep frustration at bay.
Will we have to make up the time for being out of school?
No, because we are not out of school. We have brought school into our homes. Classes are still functioning and considered to be “in session”.
What if we don’t have internet access at home?
Spectrum has offered free wi-fi in certain areas. To learn more, please contact Spectrum directly at 844-488-8395.
What is the best way to communicate with administration?
Email is the preferred method of communication. For our Administrator, Anna Trimble, please email atrimble@eastgateacademy.org. For our Principal, Ryan Trimble, please email rtrimble@eastgateacademy.org.
